Washington Bureau Chief for Breitbart News Network Matt Boyle discussed his recent exclusive interview with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic during an appearance Tuesday on The Michael Patrick Leahy Show, describing President Donald Trump’s extraordinary popularity in Serbia and highlighting what he called a growing international appetite for American leadership.
Speaking with The Tennessee Star’s CEO and Editor-in-Chief Michael Patrick Leahy, Boyle said that Trump’s support in Serbia is rooted in both historical grievances and admiration for the president’s policies and leadership style.
“President Trump is revered,” Boyle said, adding that the people in Serbia “have never forgiven the American Democrats” for the NATO bombing campaign against Belgrade during the Clinton administration.
Despite those lingering resentments, Boyle emphasized that Serbians remain strongly pro-American.
“That being said, they love America and they love President Trump,” Boyle said. “So they’ve been very hopeful there that President Trump is gonna be able to bring some real changes to the United States.”
Boyle described Serbia as a predominantly Orthodox Christian nation that shares many of the cultural and religious values emphasized by Trump’s political movement.
“They’re a Christian, Orthodox Christian country,” Boyle said. “Something like 75 percent or more of Serbs supported President Trump in the lead-up to the 2024 election.”
According to Boyle, many Serbians view Trump as an opportunity to reset relations between the two countries after decades of tension. He pointed to Trump’s first-term efforts to address the long-running Serbia-Kosovo dispute.
“Back in President Trump’s first term, he was able to take the biggest steps yet that we’ve seen to resolve the Serbia-Kosovo dispute with the Washington Agreement that was signed in September 2020,” Boyle said.
Boyle also revealed that Vucic extended an invitation for Trump to visit Serbia.
“The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, told me that he’s inviting President Trump to visit Belgrade,” Boyle said. “If President Trump does decide to go, he would get a crowd of more than 100,000 people there to greet him.”
“I totally believe that given several of the things that I saw when I was there,” he added.
Leahy asked Boyle how he had become one of the leading conservative journalists interviewing foreign heads of state. Boyle attributed it in part to a lack of interest from traditional media outlets.
“The fact of the matter is there’s not many other people out there doing this kind of thing,” Boyle said. “Most of the establishment media, not just here in the United States, but around the world, just doesn’t like President Trump, and they don’t like MAGA voters.”
Boyle said his approach in media is straightforward.
“We’re going out there, and we’re just talking to people and listening to them and asking good questions,” he said.
The Breitbart editor argued that Trump’s influence extends far beyond the U.S. and is inspiring political movements across Europe and Latin America.
“People are hungry for American leadership,” Boyle said. “They want to side with America, and President Trump is way more popular worldwide and revered worldwide, I think, than the globalist elite establishment people, whether they’re in politics or media or business or whatever, would tell you.”
Boyle described what he sees as an emerging international coalition inspired by Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
“There is a network of young people around the world that are stepping up and following,” Boyle said. “They are inspired by President Trump, by Vice President Vance and their leadership around the world.”
During Tuesday’s segment, Boyle also discussed what he views as a broader geopolitical struggle between Western democracies and Communist China.
“Everybody understands that we’re in a civilizational struggle with China,” Boyle said. “We believe in freedom of religion. We believe in freedom of speech. We believe in private property. We believe in ownership. We believe in capitalism and success whereas there, they’re a communist dictatorship.”
He argued that nations sharing those values increasingly see alignment with the U.S. as essential.
“Most of the world recognizes that if you believe in these common values that unite Western civilization, you have to be on Team America,” Boyle said.
Looking ahead, Boyle said he has received invitations from leaders around the globe and expects more international interviews in the future.
“I have invitations from more than a dozen countries around the world,” Boyle said. “I’ve done, I think I want to say, eight heads of state in the last year or so, and many more on the way.”
When Leahy asked when Boyle realized international political reporting had become a significant part of his work, Boyle pointed to Trump’s return to the White House.
“I think it was when President Trump came back to the White House,” Boyle said.
